Parfois les scénaristes, les cinéastes, aiment glisser de petites allusions à leur propre panthéon cinématographique. Ça peut être lourdingue : les citations d’Apocalypse Now dans le Dune de Villeneuve (le Baron essuyant son crâne luisant de sueur comme Marlon Brando), ou plus fin : citer le même film dans Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, épisode 4*, quand Adar demande à son prisonnier Elfe où il est né :

– Where were you born, soldier ? By the mouth of the river? I went down that river once, when I was young… I remember the banks were covered in sage blossoms…

A comparer avec la scène ou Willard, lui aussi prisonnier répond aux questions du Colonel Kurtz :

– Where are you from, Willard?
– I’m from Ohio, sir.
– Were you born there?
– Yes, sir.
– Whereabouts?
– Toledo, sir.
– How far are you from the river?
– The Ohio River, sir? About 200 miles.
– I went down that river once when I was a kid. There’s a place in that river – I can’t remember – must have been a gardenia plantation at one time. It’s all wild and overgrown now, but about five miles, you’d think that heaven just fell on the earth in the form of gardenias.
